little brothers and great-grandparents

i've been dying to play with my crafty stuff, but the weekend was far too busy. so i had a free night last night and this is what i made. i saw a project similar to this done up in the latest issue of simply handmade. she had used cardboard and tied the squares together. i couldn't tell you her name b/c i just don't remember. yes, i'm a check-out reader and putter-backer. i will buy it though as it is a wonderful issue. it's just a bit pricey and i'll just have to wait.

things are fine here. it's been almost a week since i blogged. eek. there's a new challenge up at BASB with a wonderful RAK, so please head on over there and check it out! also, the challenge is still up over at SYC, so go take a peek at that as long as you're hopping around.

soccer practice is tonight and coach man, well...i think he's more excited than they are. that's fine though. i'm glad he likes it. me...i'm just not that into other people's kids--people i don't know well, that is. maybe that's why i really disliked being den-leader for cub scouts. i didn't want to have to get my 'yell' on all the time. i do that enough at home. i'd much rather have told the parents, 'hey, don't bring your snotty little kid back here anymore b/c he can't behave and i don't want to deal with all that crap.' 9 boys was just too much. no thank you.

i have my consult with the ENT doc tomorrow to talk about my tonsils and whether or not i will be getting them removed. don't let me chicken out. or maybe let me.

i ran across this yesterday while organizing our bookshelf. i just love reading through it. my dad's aunt made it a few years ago. she just passed a few months back. she was 89, i believe when she died. she contacted everyone she could in the family and compiled all of our stories as well as her own, typed them, added pictures, had the book printed and bound, then she went ahead and mailed them all to us. simply amazing. and i love her for sending me one. what a wonderful treasure. she was so grateful to the family for coming to America and her thoughts of growing up make me wish that life was that simple and at the same time, that difficult. that would make us all appreciate what we have so much more. she was so grateful to her parents for coming to America--she never forgot their sacrifices so that all their children could have a better life.

that's it folkers...i'm sure i'll think of something else later. oh, and sis...turn off your bath water. i had a dream i left it running and flooded your entire house. weird.

First that is one FIERCE project, I love it and admire all the work that went into it :-) Beautiful.
What a precious gift your great aunt gave to you. So amazing to think at all the sacrifices that our families made for us to live in this country. Amazing when you think about it.

we have the same philosophy on other people's kids :) i agree, it's easier to tell the parents to deal with it.
