it's a particle board shelf with some plastic trim. i took it apart, removed the plastic trim, sanded it all, primed it and painted it. removing the trim left a groove all the way around, so i simply covered it with some ribbon. the paint and primer cost $7, the ribbon $1.48 (i adhered it with some glue which i already had). i think the shelf probably cost about $15 or so. not too shabby! once i get my new scrappin' table, it will sit on top and hold all the goodies that i need to have for every project like adhesive, ink, pens, etc...
now it's certainly far from professional but it should hold up as long as i'm the only one who messes with it. i will most likely get tired of the ribbon, cut i can easily peel it off and find something else to suit my mood when the time comes.
don't you have an ugly shelf you'd like to make new? be sure to share!
